Installing Hard Finishes in the Powder Bathroom
This week, we are installing hard finishes in our powder bathroom. Hard finishes are accents that are not easily swapped out, such as faucets, flooring, and light fixtures.
The hard finishes for our powder bathroom include the new pedestal sink, faucet, door handle, and light fixture.
I chose a mix of metal finishes to create a timeless look in the bathroom. In the final phase of the bathroom refresh, I will repeat these metals in other finishes to make the look come together.

English Vintage Style Faucet

This vintage style faucet is what dreams are made of!
I went out of my comfort zone and decided to try a polished nickel finish for the first time.
I usually reach for warm tones, especially unlaquered brass; however, in my research, I noticed chrome finishes are popular in cottage design. Chrome is a little stark for me, but polished nickel has warm undertones perfect for mixing with antique and unlacquered brass.
While I love unlacquered brass, it is phasing out as a trend, and I think cooler toned metal looks more classic in a bathroom for hard finishes.
Interior designers like Jean Stoffer, use polished nickel a lot in their designs. Not only is this a classic finish, but just like unlaquered brass, it develops a patina over time. You guys know how I love an authentic aged feel.
Vintage Style Pedestal sink

Our old pedestal sink had no counter surface for soaps or nailbrushes.
This sink from Wayfair has a classic look and gives plenty of space for someone to do hair or makeup if necessary.
I also love the slight lip around the edge of the sink–perhaps a nice place to hang a pleated sink skirt!
Antique Brass Light fixture

With a tiny bathroom, my goal is to maximize the lighting with a double light fixture. As it turns out, these are quite expensive for the vintage look I was after.
Luckily, I happened to find this beautiful light at a local antique store for just $36! I think the finish is brass plated metal, but it has a beautiful antique look and the milk glass gives off plenty of diffuse light.
Ceramic and Brass Door Knob

The simplicity of cermaic along with the unlquered brass rosette feels very historic. This brass will age beautifully with time and wear. My plan is to gradually replace all the door handles in our home with this handle. I need to touch up some paint after installing, but I really love how it looks already!
