Budget Powder Bathroom Plans

This year, I aim to complete as many spaces in our home as possible to create more usable space and a cohesive style. This means being realistic about the budget and making quicker decisions to make progress (a big challenge for me)!

With many projects on our list for this year, our tiny half bath on the main floor feels like an easy project to tackle first.

The powder room is our most used bathroom and what guests see when visiting.

It hasn’t been touched since we moved in in 2023, and the baby blue paint from the 2000s makes me cringe every time I walk in.

All that to say, it’s time for a refresh!

Here are some photos of our main floor powder room. It’s a very small space, so getting decent photos was difficult.

If you’ve seen my house tour post, you will notice the wainscoting on our main floor was also carried into the half bath. As I have expressed before, I don’t love this wall treatment. It feels very craftsman/modern farmhouse to me.

However, to tear it all out and then repair all the walls would be a big hassle. In planning this bathroom design, I had the idea to add extra trim inside the boxes to create a more traditional look. I hope this works so I can implement it throughout the rest of the house!

The Vision:

My vision for this powder bathroom is a warm, relaxing cottage vibe.

I will start by color-drenching the room in a soft green-blue paint (TBD). Eventually, when the budget allows, I would love to add wallpaper above the wainscoting, but anything is better than that baby blue color for now!

While this is a budget-focused refresh, the sink is very dingy, so we will replace it with a new pedestal sink. The lighting, faucet, and toilet handle will be replaced with something more vintage-inspired.

I am most excited about my plan to add a patterned sink skirt, which will really add that cottage charm and hide the pipes, too! I will add a cafe curtain in the same pattern as the sink skirt for a window treatment.
