Simple Ways to Add Coziness to Your Home for the Fall
Fall months are for slowing down, wrapping up in a warm blanket, and spending time with family. In this post, discover simple ways to create a warm, cozy home atmosphere this season.
Summer into fall is a big transition, and subtle changes around the home can add extra warmth and coziness. One of the simplest ways to decorate and experience the season is by using the five senses (sight, smell, touch, hear, and taste.) You may be decorating with the five senses and not even realize it. However, once you have it in your mind, you can intentionally implement these ideas into your home and appreciate them even more.
Fall Scents
The first thing that signals a seasonal change is fall scents. We love incorporating warm, woodsy scents into our fall home. Candles are a great way to add a beautiful aroma and a warm, cozy glow of light.
However, they aren’t the only way to incorporate fall scents. Seasonal Mrs. Meyers soaps and cleaners are a simple way to leave a subtle scent throughout your home.
Cozy Throw Blankets
Layering heavier throws into your living space will signal you are moving into autumn. These Teddy throws from West Elm are a perfect touch.
Add textured blankets such as fur, wool, teddy, or knit in cream and brown tones. Keep blankets contained yet accessible in an oversized basket in your living space.
Create a Fall Playlist
Music has a way of taking us on a journey and setting the mood. Find music that reminds you distinctly of fall.
It’s easy to search playlists on Spotify or Pandora, or you can always make your own.
Display Natural Elements
Fall is a great time to start displaying firewood and colorful branches in your home.
Nature walks are an easy and cheap way to add these earthy elements. Last year I started using nature bowls as a fall accent.
When I go on walks, I collect acorns, pretty leaves, and whatever else feels like fall. Display these small items in a lovely dish and place them on an entry table or somewhere they are visible.
If you have kids, this is a simple way to get them excited for the fall season.
Make Fall Comfort Food
To me, the fall months are the best time for comfort food. Whenever the cooler weather rolls in, all I crave is a bowl of broccoli and cheddar soup from Panera (with extra bread on the side, please!)
Making our favorite fall dishes and baked goods is the best way to add coziness to the fall months. Try a new fall cocktail or coffee drink, or keep some apple cider on hand for a cozy drink.
Fall Activities, Movies, and Games
Adding coziness isn’t just about decor and scented candles; it’s about the experiences we create.
Whether it’s Sunday football, spooky Halloween movies, or the first bonfire of the year, incorporating fall activities will get everyone excited for the season.
For example, we always anticipate watching the new season of The Great British Baking Show every year, and I pick a new home decor book to read for the season.
Find little things that help you reconnect with loved ones, and be intentional about doing them this year.
